Abstract-This paper explores the role of ideology in the Kurdish media from a translation studies perspective. It examines whether the translated texts available for the Kurdish readership are true versions of the source texts, or whether they are swayed by the ideological influences of the translator and/or the media agency. The paper provides a thorough examination of 14 journalistic texts (opinion articles and news reports) translated from English into Kurdish. It analyses how far ideology has played any role in translating these texts, and how it is reflected at the macro-textual as well as micro-textual level. The paper’s ultimate objective is to shed light on the current status of translation activities in the Kurdish media in terms of impartiality, and thereby raise the awareness of the target readership about the degree of accuracy of the translation outputs provided by the Kurdish media.
